Back to all Boring® Thoughts

Ever wondered what it really takes to become an expert? Malcolm Gladwell says it's 10,000 hours, but we think it's more about the small, overlooked moments that fill those hours.

In our latest series, Watercooler Chats, we peel back the curtain on office life with people who spend their days making the world a little more interesting. No fluff, just the real stories behind the titles.

Meet Quebah, a graduate interior designer at Jasmax who's transforming workspaces from the inside out—literally.

When she’s not deep into planning the next big office layout or figuring out the perfect ratio of meeting rooms to snack stations, she’s probably daydreaming about her dog Olive back in Meanjin, Brisbane. From office dogs to matcha cookies, Quebah’s days are far from predictable.

We caught up with Quebah at the Jasmax office for a chat across the watercooler.

What does your family think your job is?

My family definitely think every day I pick curtains and swap tiles, kind of like the Sims. Bless them - they're 5% of the way there!

What’s the most bizarre task you’ve had to do in your role?

Learning how to bake better and bake with more variety for morning teas and birthdays - now I'm bold enough to bake some matcha strawberry cookies.

What’s the most boring part of your job that you secretly enjoy?

I LOVE research. It's a secret joy. I started my university career in Archaeology and Anthropology before studying Interior Design. History and culture are my bread and butter.

Tell us something surprising about your job.

The dogs at Jasmax! I love them - they all have different personalities and help bring a bit more sunshine into the office.

My daughter swears I “sell sauce” and my husband insists I “just move boxes around.”
