Back to all Boring® Thoughts

Say hello to our friend Sue, from Elixir Cafe. A self proclaimed 'jack of all trades', you'll usually find Sue at either of her two New Plymouth cafes. Good news for diners with a bad sense of direction or who don't like to walk very far, there's an Elixir Café at each end of the street, only a short walk from Fitzroy Beach.

You can find both Elixir Cafe and Elixir Cafe West on Devon Street East and West, and regardless of your coordinates you'll find kiwi classics like mince on toast and other delicious treats on the menu.

We asked Sue a few boring questions so you can get to know her, and her neat place, a little better.

Tell us a little bit about your role at Elixir?

I'm a 'jack of all trades'. From barista to server to kitchen hand to catering or baking (sometimes all in one day), I can do almost every role in both our shops except chef, I still can't poach an egg to save myself. I am in awe of my chefs.

What's your favourite New Plymouth meal?

I do enjoy a good burger. Gamma Ray's is probably one of the best. The Liardet Street Projects is our go to at night. Or Shining Peak is amazing.

What's the most interesting thing on your menu and why?

I don't know if it's the most interesting, but probably the most talked about is the Mince on Toast. It's just a classic good meal. I have never heard one complaint about it, other than it's too big. Elixir is all about the classics prepared the best way.

What's something in New Plymouth you think everyone should experience at least once?

I love New Plymouth, so the walkway, the beaches, our maunga.

Okay, quickfire round. What's the theme song to your life?

Three Little Birds, Bob Marley

What's your desert island dish?

I can never say no to hot chips. But roast chicken, gravy, potatoes, vege would be the dish. Or... actually, ribeye steak medium rare.

Sum up Elixir Cafe in three words.

The best and most consistent; Coffee, Food, Service.
