At Grey Roasting Co, it’s all about getting the simple things right. Beans are roasted fresh on site, their coffee gear selection is top-notch, and the team make you feel right at home, without asking you to take your shoes off.
Grey Roasting Co brings next-level coffee vibes to the Waikato riverfront. Whether you're grabbing a quick takeaway or settling in for a slow morning, every cup is brewed with care.
We asked Dan a few boring questions so you can get to know them, and their neat place, a little better.

Tell us a little bit about your role at Grey Roasting Co?
I’m the head barista at Grey Roasting Co, dedicated to creating memorable experiences through great coffee, warm hospitality, and a smile. If I am just a small part of someone’s day, I want it to be memorable for them.
What’s your favourite Hamilton meal?
The Danish-style hotdog from Lykke Cafe in Frankton is the best hotdog you’ll ever eat—trust me.
Where’s the best seat in the house Grey Roasting Co and why?
If I was a customer I would love to sit at the bar. We have a ModBar here at GRC which is an espresso machine built into the bench, so it really eliminates the big barrier (being the big coffee machine) between you and the customer. It is really unique; there are only a few of these in NZ so it’s a bit of a novelty for people to watch how we make coffee.
What’s something in Hamilton you think everyone should experience at least once?
Hands down The Green – A Chef’s Table is an unforgettable six-course degustation celebrating local artisans, curated by Chef Karl Boulton and Sommelier Drew.
David Brent or Michael Scott?
Michael Scott—because he reminds me of myself haha!
What podcast are you listening to at the moment?
I’m more of a music guy, but I recently enjoyed an Academy Podcast episode featuring Joshua Heares, founder of Porter James Sports, which gave great insight into his creative process.

What does your family think your job is?
My daughter swears I “sell sauce” and my husband insists I “just move boxes around.”
