Wētā Workshop isn't just part of Wellington; it's much like their cable car - essential, full of character, and always taking things to the next level. Like the magicians you call when your dragon needs dentures or your elf needs a new set of ears.

In the capital known for its creative pulse, Wētā is the spark in the hobbit-sized heart of it all. It’s a Wellington institution because, much like a good flat white or a howling southerly, you simply can't imagine the place without it. They're the people who have been turning ordinary things into extraordinary for over thirty years, with a handful of Academy Awards and BAFTAs in tow.

Before wrapping our tour of Wellington, we sat down with Matt from Wētā Workshop to ask him some boring questions.

Tell us a little bit about your role at Wētā Workshop.

I'm in the purchasing team and it's our job to keep the materials stocked, and the Wētā Workshop machine humming.

Where would we find a bottle of Boring at Wētā Workshop?

We have many coffee machines and kitchens around the business. Running out of coffee and milk is sometimes the biggest drama we have to deal with, I'm not kidding. Learning from this experience we have Boring stashed in most cupboards, under stairwells, and have a couple more secret stashes in case those run out.

What’s something in Wellington you think everyone should experience at least once?

There are so many great festivals in Wellington, and Cubadupa is one that stands out. So much good music and artistic talent.

What’s your favourite Wellington meal?

I live close to Vogelmorn Bowling Club where the Syrian restaurant Damascus started. They are now down on Tory St and all of their food is really delicious.

Awesome liquid porridge.
