Everyone, meet Matt. Matt, meet everyone. For those of you yet to have the pleasure of getting to know Matt, he’s the Operator, Chef & Disc Jockey at COOP Coffee + Community, a place where the vibes are bloody good and the tunes are loud.
After one year of being open this thriving café was hit by Cyclone Gabrielle. The floodwaters tore through COOP’s space, reaching approximately 1.5 meters. Despite the challenges, the Community’s resilience shone through. By July 2024, COOP proudly reopened its doors, now coffee is flowing, Kiwi vinyls are spinning, and there is a genuine sense of community, hence the name, COOP Coffee + Community.

What's something new you've discovered recently?
From the inception of COOP I wanted to grow produce for the menu. So I am, and discovered it is so rewarding! Not only good for your headspace, but to end the day spending time in the garden is grounding.
What's your desert island dish?
Duck! Specifically, Massaman Duck Curry. When you are on a desert island, you have a lot of time, which is what you need to make the curry paste as it has so many ingredients. I can eat it for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner!
What podcast are you listening to at the moment?
RedHanded - a true crime podcast. The podcasters are not only hilarious, but their research into the crimes is also outstanding! It is a weekly release full of murder and WTF moments. Run, don't walk to this podcast. So good for a roadie.
